Dr. Weix and Dr. Chandrashekara are performing ground breaking work here at Las Colinas Medical Center. Both physicians have undergone extensive training, and are now performing single-site hysterectomies using the da Vinci robot at our facility. Not only is this procedure new to the hospital, it is new to our community. Las Colinas Medical Center is the FIRST hospital in Irving to offer this service!

To kick of National Breastfeeding Month, Las Colinas Medical Center and several of our patients participated in the Latch-On Texas campaign on August 1st. Latch-On Texas is a local organization that is part of the largerGlobal Big Latch-On organization that promotes breastfeeding world-wide. The Latch-On campaign encourages moms to all breastfeed their babies at the same time on the first day of August to bring awareness to the benefits of breastfeeding.

Las Colinas Medical Center’s Employee Advisory Group is made up of representatives from every department in the hospital. Their goal is to be a communication link between their coworkers and the executive staff in order to solve issues, foster ideas, and make this organization a better place to work. One of the projects the EAG recently completed was an outreach fundraiser for a local nonprofit organization in Irving. They decided to organize a bake sale using all employee products to raise funds for The Main Place. While bake sales have been done before, this was the first to benefit an external organization in need.

Las Colinas Medical Center is determined to make a positive impact on the patient experience at our hospital. We know how terrifying and uncomfortable it can be to come in to the emergency room, especially for a child. The number of people in the room along with the noise of the machines can make for a scary experience. That’s why we decided to redesign one of our Emergency Department rooms with children in mind. Providing an atmosphere that is distracting and engaging creates another level of care for a young patient.

Recently, Las Colinas Medical Center revealed a newly renovated Cardiac Cath Lab and began using it in procedures. Our physicians, Cardiac Cath Lab team, and Emergency Medical Service providers are all extremely pleased with the new equipment and the level of patient care they are now able to provide.

Las Colinas Medical Center has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2013 – one of only 197 hospitals nationwide to do so. The award recognizes Las Colinas Medical Center’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients, and signifies that Las Colinas Medical Center has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
