WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF SPIRIT OF WOMEN ACTIVITIES?

"Girls' Night Out - A Night in Paris"

Our Team

The evening of October 20, was a very special time for Las Colinas Medical Center as it held the first “Girls’ Night Out” event was held on the hospital campus. The event is held at participating hospitals all over the nation as part of “Spirit of Women®” education events.

The entrance to the facility was completely decorated in a “Paris” theme complete with a thirteen foot Eiffel Tower, old fashion photo booth, flower cart and more.  The presentation room was decorated in hot pink in honor of cancer awareness. The fashion show was presented by Neiman Marcus – Willow Bend with beautiful models walking about the room mixing with the guests and sharing the designer fashions.

Andy

The program started with a brief welcome by the CEO of Las Colinas Medical Center, Daniela Decell and was soon afterwards Pastor Andy McQuitty of IBC shared his story as a colon cancer survivor.  Several laughs along the way as well as tears as Pastor McQuitty describe details of being told he had stage 4 cancer, physician stating there was no reason to operate, all the way to the current status of cancer free.  While the entire episode took nearly two years – the initial diagnose of cancer, the operation, the not so fun of chemotherapy, then a second operation, and now semi-annual follow-ups.  He also shared the story of a pager being presented to him and the reason it continue to buzz.

Rathkamp

Immediately following Pastor Andy was a brief presentation by Dr. Rathkamp on cancer prevention. She focused on diet and exercise with many statics to back the rationale. Described as the energizer bunny of physicians, Dr. Rathkamp share her opinion for why we should get vaccines, restrict alcohol consumption, and maintaining a daily exercise routine.   She shared stories of the goods and bads she had seen during her tenure as a physician, especially some of the lame excuses. Dr. Rathkamp finished by fielding some questions from the audience.

Lastly, the fun part of the event, Krystle Gutierrez and Victoria Snee were introduced as the “Best Hat” judges…. With some great selections to choose from they made their selections and prizes were awarded.

Krystle & Victoria

Fun for all in celebration of cancer survivors….
